Weight loss can feel like an uphill battle at times. You're not alone in thinking that. Can You Relate? Running and eating right but still gaining weight. All this effort is not budging the scale. I’ve been there, too—and was sick of hearing muscle weighs more than fat. I still had a tummy hiding my once well-defined abs, and I could not understand how my weight kept climbing despite my long-term health habits. When I started training for my 6th marathon, I reached an all-time heaviest weight. It negatively impacted my running performance, and my passion for running started to wane for the first time. My pace slowed down, my legs exhausted faster, and the arches of my feet really started to feel the extra weight that I had put on. I knew I had to lose weight if I wanted to continue to enjoy this outlet that was more than just a hobby to me. As an experienced health coach of 11 years, I looked for gaps in well-being and lifestyle factors that would help me lose weight. The problem was that I couldn’t identify any specific areas. I slept well, meditated to cope with stress, ate a balanced, nutrient-dense diet, and ran my tail off. What was I missing? So I asked myself, what does a health coach do….hire a coach! Working with a coach, I discovered a new way of eating. The solution was to eat in a way that allowed my body to utilize fat as fuel as opposed to glycogen stores. I began eating a diet backed by science and used in doctors’ offices to help people lose weight to better manage chronic conditions. Eureka! It worked. I reached my ideal weight and the best part, my running pace felt easier, lighter, and faster. I even took 1st Place Overall Female in the hardest half marathon where I live! Shortly after, I shaved 10 entire minutes off of my fastest marathon time.
